Norwegian researchers have previously demonstrated an association between diabetes and virus infection. New research shows that, among children with type 1 diabetes, treatment with antiviral drugs could help preserve insulin levels. The result shows that it is possible to slow down and eventually prevent type 1 diabetes.

Researchers have discovered that patients with type 1 diabetes can regain the ability to produce insulin. They showed that insulin-producing cells can recover outside the body. 

Norske forskere har nå vist at medisiner mot virus motvirker tapet av insulin hos barn med nyoppdaget diabetes type 1. Resultatet gir håp om at det er mulig å bremse, og kanskje etter hvert forebygge sykdommen.
