The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air.*

The elves might not be real but their message is more than real – we see the world change before our eyes faster than ever. That change was brought by next wave technological revolution that swept also the world of life science. It took over 10 years at the cost of 3 billion $ to sequence the first human genome. Today, after approximately 3 weeks and 1000$ we can hold in our hands the info of who we are at the level of the genetic code.

Science is an amazing challenge in the day-to-day life. And you would be surprised what researchers are ready to do for the sake of discovery.

Why do you get up in the morning? Maybe you think your work is fun, or that your colleagues are great. My answer is that (in addition to a fun job with great colleagues) I enjoy the rush when my research finally yields a tiny puzzle piece of new information. I get out of bed each morning to add new knowledge to the bigger picture of how cells work.

As scientists, we are used to speaking more than one language in our day-to-day life. We work with people from many different countries, but we all share one common language: English.

As a scientist I get excited when my experiments suddenly turn into discoveries. When my hypotheses are answered by yes or no. When the pieces of the puzzle suddenly fall into place and everything makes sense. That’s when I get excited. Not that it happens too often…..
