Supplementary rules for election of deans

Scope of the supplementary rules. Election system, eligibility and form of voting, as well as simplified procedures for election of deans at the Faculty of Medicine.

These rules were adopted by the Faculty Board, Faculty of Medicine, on 25 May 2010.

1. Scope of the supplementary rules

These supplementary rules apply to the election of deans at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, pursuant to the Regulations for appointment and election of heads of faculties and departments (in Norwegain only).

2. Election system

Deans are elected by direct voting. The Pro-Dean for Research and the Pro-Dean for Education are nominated and appointed by the Dean. Pro-deans are appointed before the elections to the Faculty Board are held.

3. Eligibility of professors II

All permanent members of the academic staff who have at least a 50% position,  employees in professor II position and external candidates, are eligible for the position of Dean of the Faculty. The same qualification requirements are set for external candidates as for internal candidates.

4. Form of voting

Direct elections with electronic casting of votes are held for all groups of voters.

5. Simplified elections

If only one proposal has been submitted by the expiry of the period specified in the schedule, the Election Board makes a public announcement of this and determines an extended period for submission of proposals. If no further proposals are received by the end of the extended period, the Election Board declares that the proposed candidate has been elected. If further proposals are received, direct elections are held according to the rules in Sections 9-1 to 9-10. If required, the Election Board may determine a new election date and schedule.
