Genotyping

Introduction and considerations

When working with genetically modified animals, it is absolutely crucial to have available a simple method for DNA analysis to identify the genetic modification. The most commonly used approach that will work in most cases will be a PCR-based strategy.

Description of the service

  • NTS may perform genotyping on a regular basis as a service.
  • NTS may then adapt a method developed by the customer provided that the method is able to detect a single copy in the genome.
  • NTS may improve an existing screening method and replace it with a better method, specific for the modification.
  • NTS can develop a new screening method that is specific for the modification.

Requirements and time-frame

  • The customer must provide exact nucleotide sequence(s) for the region(s) containing the genetic modification.
  • The design and validation is typically performed within 1-2 weeks.

Costs cover the following

  • Technical time to establish a new genotyping strategy.
  • Ordering of primers.
  • Validation of primer specificity.

Conditions

  • Costs are for design of regular PCR based strategies.
  • Depending on the nature and the extent of the work involved, advice may be charged an hourly salary.
