FRIPRO Researcher Project for Early Career Scientists

The Research Council of Norway's FRIPRO Early Career Scientists call is open. Deadline: open-ended.

FRIPRO is the Research Council of Norway (RCN) funding for bottom-up and researcher initiated projects.

The scheme funds free, bold and innovative research at the forefront of international research, both basic and applied.

What will be funded

FRIPRO Early Career Scientist projects may receive from NOK 4 mill-8 mill. Project duration may be from 36-48 months. You must dedicate at least 25 per cent of a full-time position in the project for the duration of the project period. 

Eligibility requirements for Early Career Scientists

Applicants should have an approved doctorate with dissertation between two and seven years before submission. Subtraction for leaves of absence, compulsory military or civilian service or sick leave may be granted in accordance with RCN rules - see the call text for details.

You must be employed in at least 50 per cent of a full-time position at the Project Owner (research organisation) for the entire duration of the project period. You can be employed in a position as a postdoctoral fellow, researcher or another academic position. You may, but do not have to, be employed by the Project Owner when you submit your grant application.

Submission Restrictions

  • You can only be the project manager for one application to the FRIPRO scheme at a time.
  • As project manager for an application submitted to FRIPRO, you will be given a one-year waiting period in FRIPRO. During the waiting period, you cannot be the project manager for a new application for funding from FRIPRO.
  • There is also a submission restriction period for project managers for FRIPRO applications with a mark average below specified limits. Please read the call text for details.
