The program was packed with inspiring talks, excellent posters, and engaging scientific discussions, showcasing the interdisciplinarity of the program.

Mental health, innovation and science communication by external speakers

The meeting kicked off with an opening by project coordinator Hilde Nebb, followed by the first session on mental health and life balance in academia. Psychologist Knut Inge Fostervold presented for example interesting facts on the importance of gaining energy through disconnection, which instantly sparked discussions among the international group.

In the second session, the focus turned to innovation. Professor Jan Terje Andersen spoke about his extensive experience in bridging basic research and research-based innovation through industrial collaboration.

Not tired yet, in the final session science communicator and neuroscientist Elodie Chabrol provided an intriguing talk. Her practical tips engaged not only the young researchers of the program but also the medical faculty’s Dean for research and innovation, Jan Bjaalie, with his thirty years of experience in public speaking.

Engaging presentations reflected the program’s interdisciplinarity

Distributed over three sessions, in total nine fellows presented interesting topics within bioinformatics, tissue engineering, immunotherapy and physiology. Conference attendees were also engaged by an impressive set of 19 posters. We had the honour of having Professor Ana Plemenitas from the University of Ljubljana leading the poster price committee. The committee had a tough job, and the winner Georgina Faura Munoz was thrilled to be recognized for her work in a tough competition.

Behind the scenes

The four fellows from the organising committee invested a lot of time putting together the program and received outstanding feedback from all attendees. They enjoyed planning a conference where fellows shared their research, networked with other researchers, and participated in open scientific discussions. A big thank you to Andrea, Vandana, Gerard and Georgina!

The Scientia Fellows annual meeting showcased the remarkable potential of the program, with its diverse group of fellows who bring their unique expertise and perspectives to the table.
