Mandatory assignments

Each programme has its own mandatory assignments. See the programme or course description for further information.

The Programme Management decides whether a course will have mandatory assignments or not. The following mandatory assignments may be used in Bachelor courses in Health Management and Health Economics, and in the Master's programmes.

  • Handing in material
  • Attendance
  • Tests
  • Oral presentations
  • Group work
  • Participation in excursions

Mandatory assignments should have a pedagogical basis. Ongoing course activities that are included in the basis for setting grades, are not included in these guidelines.

  1. The course description must specify the requirements that must be met in order to have the assignment approved as having been completed. If the assignment has not been approved as having been completed, an explanation must be given.
  2. If mandatory assignments have not been undertaken and/or approved, the student cannot present himself/herself for the examination.
  3. In the event of a legitimate absence from mandatory assignments (elite athletes, chronic illnesses etc.), the student may receive adapted instruction, for example in the form of alternative mandatory assignments, exemption from attendance or the postponement of mandatory assignments.
  4. A mandatory assignment that has not been approved due to its academic content (written assignments/test etc.), may be re-done once in the same semester. Compulsory assignments that have not been approved may be appealed.
  5. Approved compulsory assignments are valid as long as the course is running (unless otherwise detailed in the course description)
  6. In the event of a suspicion of cheating on a compulsory assignment, the student must be  called for a meeting to review the situation. The case may then go to the Appeals Committee as cheating/attempted cheating.

Retaking mandatory assignments

Mandatory assignments that have been approved cannot normally be re-taken when they do not count towards the final results.

If a mandatory assignment has not been approved and the student has a legitimate absence, the student has the right to participate in a new mandatory assignment as soon as practically possible. In some programmes this will only be possible in the next ordinary period of the course.

Students whose assignment has not been approved for any other reason, will be allowed to participate in a new mandatory assignment when places in the relevant course or other forms of teaching resources are available. .

The decision not to approve an assigment may be appealed.
