Student Guidance in Medicine and Dentistry

Student guidance is a low-threshold service for all students of Medicine and Dentistry. We can help you with practical issues, your study progress, exam questions and with more personal issues. We are also the contact point for exchanges.

Two students

Students employed by Student Guidance.

Who are we?

At present we are three students: Yngve Sørensen and Elise Wiig Nordby, medical students on semesters 6 and 4B in the spring, and Hanne Tuvrønningen, semester 9 dentistry student. The Faculty has hired us to serve as a point of contact between students at the Faculty of Medicine and the Section for Student Affairs/ management. Our offices are at the Section for Student Affairs, by the Student Information Centre.

How can we help you?

All students are welcome to chat with us on any issue. This is a low-threshold service for all students of Medicine and Dentistry (1 - 4A). We can help you with practical issues, like what books to buy, information about study progress and exam issues. We are also available for conversations and supervision on matters of a more personal nature. For example, this may be exam nerves, if you are tired of your studies, or if there simply is something on your mind. We have a duty of confidentiality.

Exchanges

  • We are the contact persons for student exchange at the Faculty of Medicine.
  • We provide information about exchange opportunities and current application procedures in semesters 6, 7 and 8.
  • We are responsible for organizing an annual information meeting about exchanges with the IFMSA student organization. Here we provide information about both options for semester exchange organized by the Faculty and summer exchanges through IFMSA. This meeting is often held in December.
  • We also organize a 'mixer' where students who have been on exchanges in the past and arriving students inspire and inform other students about exchange options at the Faculty. This is held once a semester.

Class representative election meeting

The class representative election meeting is for representatives of every year, and is held every semester. The purpose of this meeting is to give tips to new class representatives, and to create a meeting place.

Inspiration meeting

Student Guidance organizes an Inspiration meeting for semester 1 and 7 students. The meeting date is listed in the semester book. Its purpose is reflection and motivation forwards in the studies.
