The Medical Curriculum

The curriculum Oslo 2014 was fully implemented in 2017.

The full course of study lasts for 12 semesters (6 years) and leads to the degree Candidatus/Candidata medicinae (Cand.Med.) - Medical Doctor. Once the degree Cand.Med. is obtained, one can be granted authorization to work as a doctor. The 1 1/2 years of internship (turnustjeneste) which used to be mandatory in order to become fully licensed doctors, has now turned into a practical service being the first part of a specialization track.

Please note that the professional programme in Medicine is taught almost entirely in Norwegian. Only the Module 6, MED5600, is taught in English.

240 medical students are admitted each year, half in August and half in January.

The studies are organized in two semesters, Autumn and Spring. The month of January is either attached to the Spring semester or used for Thesis Work and Elective Periods.

The Oslo 2014 curriculum consists of 8 modules, Examen Philosophicum, Thesis and Elective Periods.

The ECTS grading system A-F is in use, but some examinations are graded pass/fail.
