Academic interests

Emma joined the Department of Community Medicine and Global Health within the Institute for Health and Society as a doctoral research fellow in 2022. She is a medical doctor and holds a Master of Public Health from Harvard University.

Her thesis explores the role of normative frameworks, contested evidence, and participatory practice in the Oslo City Public Health Strategy for 2023-2030, which aims to reduce the city's growing levels of social inequality in health. She is particularly interested in the impact of the policymaking process itself on the pursuit of more equitable futures. Her work applies theories and methods of policy research at the intersection of anthropology, sociology, and science studies (STS) to public health policy in Norway.

Emma is an affiliate researcher at the Center for Sustainable Healthcare Education. She is also a Commissioner on the Oslo-Lancet Commission on Global Governance for Health launched in 2023.

Courses taught

Emma has taught a variety of social medicine seminars at the University of Oslo and Harvard University. She is particularly inspired by teaching opportunities that engage questions of health equity, antiracist medical practice, and redistributive health policy.
