The Norwegian Planetary Health Alliance (NORPath) is a transdisciplinary and multisectoral, collaborative network for Norwegian stakeholders in Planetary Health, which is a scientific field and global movement dedicated to understanding the interdependent relationship between the health of humans and the health of our planet. NORPath serves as a forum for building and sustaining national capacity and competency in Planetary Health, for raising Planetary Health awareness nationally, and for innovation that serves the interests of sustainability and health. It also provides a cohesive, national platform for collaboration at regional and international levels.

Why NORPath?

Despite growing urgency, the siloed organization of academic and research institutions is not conducive to the systems-oriented, transdisciplinary research and multisectoral collaboration that is needed to address contemporary global health and sustainability threats. Tackling this constraint is critical for enhancing our understanding of the complex and interlinked global health and sustainability challenges currently faced, for mobilizing multisectoral partnerships towards integrated solutions, and for accelerating progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

NORPath aims to be of unique societal value as Norway navigates a changing world and seeks sustainable solutions to current and impending planetary and global health crises. Building on a foundation of established collaborations, competencies, and societal impacts at the University of Oslo and among the NORPath partner institutions, NORPath explores needs, addresses shortcomings, and galvanizes innovative strategies and commitments within the national agendas of relevance for Planetary Health.

Equity, including gender equity, is a principle that underpins both Planetary Health and NORPath, with research demonstrating the disproportionate impact of climate change on the health of women and disadvantaged populations. NORPath is also sustainably driven, with care taken to avoid negative environmental and climate impacts and to encourage climate-friendly operations, including, for example, digital arrangements and electronic communications.
