Magnus who shares her journey of once being a young physician with three children by the age of 29. In this interview, she describes transitioning into research and what really drove this decision. Eventually she became passionate about women's health even leading a national center of excellence at Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in the United States. Her career path demonstrates the different avenues available within the global health field, which may be of interest to our younger audience. With all the major challenges of striving for a healthy work-life balance, Jeanette's words of wisdom includes always staying true to yourself. Watch the full interview!

About Jeanette H. Magnus

Jeanette H. Magnus is Director of Centre for Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, former Head, Institute of Health and Society, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, Norway and former Chair, current Adjunct Professor, Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, New Orleans, U.S. 

Dr. Magnus earned both her MD and PhD from University of Tromsø in Norway. She worked with Tulane University in the U.S. for 12 years, but has been with University of Oslo since 2011. Magnus has more than 140 publications related to global health, minority health, social determinants of health, and gender differences in chronic diseases.  She has a keen interest in academic capacity development in education and research education globally. Magnus has extensive experience with coordination of projects that involve development of capacity in education and research, including scientists and practitioners with different backgrounds. She is currently the Associate Editor of Biology of Sex Differences (impact factor 8.81) , and on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Women’s Health & Gender Based Medicine (2006-current), Ethiopian Journal of Health Sciences (2016-current), and Journal of Women’s Health Report (2019- current).
