Thematic Research Areas

The centre will focus on research along two streams:

Innovative structures and processes of primary health care service

The centre builds on a strong competence and extensive collaborative research on organizational, financial and other structural aspects of the services. The research comprises implementation studies of new tools or systems (e.g. e-health or primary care teams) and of handling of ethical dilemmas. Studies of coordination of care is an important stream of research, together with research important for establishment of a primary care registry.

Health care services in groups with complex needs

Primary health care services deal with large numbers of patients with complex needs, calling for a broader interaction between health care providers and between health care sectors. These patient groups include those with chronic conditions. The centre activities are founded in a long-standing tradition for collaborative research on such groups (e.g. musculoskeletal problems, diabetes, COPD, brain injuries, mental illness, and elderly).
