The COVID-19 pandemic is putting the Norwegian healthcare system to the test. In this research project, we aim to investigate how the pandemic is being managed in primary healthcare services

Objectives and outcomes

Through observational data from symptomatic patients in isolation, as well as individuals in quarantine without symptoms, the project aims to evaluate the clinical course of COVID-19 outside of hospitals, as well as the fears and worries of the people personally affected by the situation. The project aims to evaluate the clinical presentation of patients seeking primary health care with respiratory tract infections during the epidemic by collecting clinical information via GPs. Interviews of GPs and municipality chief medical officers will explore experiences of the local health care system responses including infection prevention and control.

The results of this project will aid future patients with Covid-19 to understand their symptoms and risks, as well as aid primary care health workers diagnosing and treating these patients. The understanding of the response by health officers in municipalities will help prepare and organize response to future epidemics.
