About the project
This is a prospective randomized controlled trail.
Before the trial a pilot study, to test the intervention, including five patients, will be conducted. These patients will be interviewed about their experiences with participating in the intervention and satisfaction with follow up. The follow up program will be adjusted based on the patients’ feedback. The trial will include 180 patients.
Background
In order to help the former intensive care patient to achieve a life with less physical and mental complaints some intensive care units (ICUs), particularly in Great Britain, have commenced follow up in out patient clinics after discharge from hospital, but there is sparse evidence of the effectiveness of this intervention.
Objectives
To investigate the effect of an individually adjusted follow up-program for ICU patients after discharge from ICU and hospital.
Outcomes
Sense of coherence, health related quality of life, emotional distress and pain, hope and return to work . These will be measured one year after discharge from Hospital.
