The MY-NORTH research group has contributed with analyses of six population-based studies from Myanmar to the Nature publication “Repositioning of the global epicentre of non-optimal cholesterol”.
Out of 7 PhD candidates under MY-NORTH, five have defended their dissertation.
MY-NORTH gave a half-day symposium “Evidence-based research findings for development of healthy policy – Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and risk factors” during the annual, international, 48th Myanmar Health Research Conference, Yangon.
MY-NORTH received a Certificate of Appreciation from the University of Medicine 1, Yangon.

The first PhD candidate under the MY-NORTH project, dr. Aung Soe Htet, defended his dissertation.
In accordance with the National Health Plan (2017-2022), Ministry of Health and Sports, Myanmar, is in the process of developing a comprehensive Health Information Strategy. The Ministry has decided that there will be one common national platform for health information in Myanmar, namely DHIS2. The choice of DHIS2 fulfils an aim of the MY-NORTH-project.
The Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, has nominated Dr Thein Thein Htay to be awarded Doctor Honoris Causa in 2017. She has accepted the nomination, and will receive the degree at the University of Oslo, Oslo, Norway, on September 1st, 2017.
Professor Espen Bjertness had a good meeting with H.E Dr Myint Htwe, Union Minister for Health and Sports on 11. January 2017. The Minister was appointed in March 2016 after the election in November 2015.
Our paper was ranked #14 in the most-discussed papers of 2016 (Altmetric top 100 2016): Trends in adult body-mass index in 200 countries from 1975 to 2014: a pooled analysis of 1698 population-based measurement studies with 19·2 million participants. NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC), Lancet. 2016 Apr 2. This is a great achievement for the NCD-RisC group and our Myanmar team.
