About the project
The main objective of the project is to improve the level of physical activity and the health of youths and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Specifically, in one of our Ph.D. projects, we will examine the health indicators, functioning of the individuals and the use of health services in a national multi-centre study. The use of health services will be examined in relation to national recommendations.
The other Ph.D. project will examine the use of e-health to increase physical activity among persons with intellectual disabilities. Motivating factors for physical activity will be explored, followed by an innovative part where mobile phone apps that aim to stimulate physical activity will be developed in collaboration with a non-profit organization and the Institute of Computer Science at the Artic University of Norway. A person-centered program for physical activity with e-health support will be examined in a pilot feasibility study. A sub-study will explore the barriers to participation in physical activity among persons with low activity level.
Patient Involvement
The patient representative of the project is from the Norwegian Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, in addition to a local reference group with patients.
