Planned restraint and coercion in the care of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The North Restraint in Intellectual Disability study (The NORID study)

About the project

The main objective of the study is to increase our understanding of the use of coercion in health services for people with intellectual disabilities in order to prevent its use and strengthen the use of alternative solutions. We will examine the incidences of planned, legal use of coercion, and the characteristics of the participants and the environment, as well as how coercion is defined in Norway in relation to other countries. A sub-study utilizing a legal sociological approach will assess the use of coercion in the framework of human rights.

This study will be carried out in predetermined areas in Troms and Finnmark.
