Objectives

The aim of the project is to describe and explore what characterizes nursing practice in nursing homes

Result

Two papers are submitted, the third is in process

Background

Western governments have initiated reforms to improve the quality of care for nursing home residents. Most of these reforms share the common idea of focusing on regulations and national quality indicators. Following the implementation of new regulations in Norway, we developed a research project to explore the importance of quality regulations or if other factors are of equal importance as guide for nursing home practice.

A qualitative method is used that encompasses an ethnographic design, with fieldwork in two nursing homes, including observation, interviews and document analysis.
37 nursing aides and 8 nurses are participating in this study.

Financing

The project is based on institutional funding from Sogn and Fjordane University College.
