Division of Molecular Nutrition

Division of molecular nutrition studies the roles of nutrition and metabolism in lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, liver disorders, metabolic syndrome, chronic inflammation, and cancer.

Teaching

Molecular Nutrition takes part in the teaching of Master's program in clinical nutrition and in the teaching of nutrition as part of the professional study program in medicine at Faculty of Medicine.

Research at the division

Research in the division aims to investigate and understand how obesity and insulin resistance are linked to energy metabolism. The expertise of the members range from molecular biology to cell and animal studies, epidemiological, as well as preventive and therapeutic intervention studies. The division’s research focus these research areas:

  • Characterize the genetic regulation of diet induced metabolic diseases and the health benefits of exercise physiology
  • Understand the molecular mechanisms for how hyperglycemia, fatty acids, amino acids and physical activity affect insulin resistance, obesity and development of diabetes and comorbidities.
  • Investigate the molecular mechanism linking obesity to inflammation and cancer and how inflammation and cancer may lead to cachexia.
