Background
After defending her thesis in the area of diabetes prevention in 2004, Brekke was responsible for publishing nutrition data in a large cohort study in Sweden, ABIS, in collaboration with Linköping university. From 2007 she was project coordinator and main supervisor for two PhD students in two randomized, controlled trials evaluating effects of postpartum weight loss at university of Gothenburg, Sweden. Brekke was during 2011-14 a VINNMER fellow and has received funding from VINNOVA, Sweden, for her collaboration with Division of Nutritional Sciences (DNS), Cornell University, USA for the project “Obesity and cardiovascular disease in women after childbearing”. Brekke spent the academic year of 2009/2010 as well as 17 mo during 2011-14 at DNS as visiting researcher. Since 2015, Brekke has been senior lecturer/associate professor/professor at the Dept of Nutrition, University of Oslo.
