Second primary invasive melanoma

Incidence and factors associated with a second primary invasive melanoma in Norway

The Cancer Registry of Norway and Oslo Centre for Biostatistics and Epidemiology published a new study in JAMA Dermatology analyzing 19 196 melanoma patients diagnosed with a first primary melanoma in Norway between January 2008 and December 2020.

The incidence rate of second primary melanomas was highest in the first year of follow-up, decreased in the second year, and stabilized thereafter. Age greater than 50 years and male sex were associated with an increased risk.
