Together with the Nuclear receptors group the group leader has characterized the transcriptional regulation of all five Plin genes. Perilipin proteins are abundant at the surface of lipid droplets and important for molecular regulation of lipid droplet degradation (lipolysis).

In a number of studies, we have characterized how the Plin genes are regulated by distinct PPAR members in various tissues, and how thes genes change in expression in response to altered energy supply and physiological changes (Bindesbøll et al., J Lipid Reserach 2013, Dalen et al, BBA Lipids 2007, J Lipid Reserach 2006, J Biol Chem 2004). The LD-group is currently focusing on dissecting the individual role of the perilipins using animal models.
