The Faculty Board at the Faculty of Medicine unanimously elected Dag Kvale, Shuo-Wang Qiao and Torbjørn Omland as Head of Institute and Deputy Heads of Institute, respectively, at the Institute of Clinical Medicine for the period 1 January 2023–31 December 2026.

– We are thankful for the extended trust and look forward to four new years. This gives us inspiration for further work, Head of Institute Dag Kvale says.

The institute management is concerned with the institute’s collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine and with Akershus University Hospital and Oslo University Hospital.

– We look forward to cooperating with the new Dean's office from the new year, Kvale says.

– Together we will achieve good processes, Deputy Head of Institute Shuo-Wang Qiao says.

Kvale, Qiao and Omland point out that they would have liked to see a real election as this is important for the university democracy.

– At the same time, we consider this to be a recognition for the work we have done in the past four years and for the coming period, Deputy Head of Institute Torbjørn Omland says.

The team will continue focusing on set priorities

The institute management believe that continuity and long-term work is good for the institute. This is an important reason why they chose to stand for re-election and why they are strongly motivated for four new years.

– In the new four-year period, we can benefit from the knowledge gained from working with various initiatives and processes in the current period, Kvale says.

Important initiatives and processes that Kvale, Qiao and Omland will continue focusing on are the strengthening of the organisational culture and ensuring better communication with the institute's employees. In addition, they will implement more systematised research support, address and facilitate good teaching and be involved in the planning of new buildings.

Promotion and representation of the institute

– It is our main task to promote and represent our large and productive institute, both to the faculty and the university management, Kvale said when they announced that they would stand for re-election.

– We will, in collaboration with the administration, work to ensure that the institute becomes an even better employer for our employees. We will also continue to work for good interfaces with the university hospitals, which are our most important external partners, he emphasises.

Dean Ivar P. Gladhaug congratulates

– Even if there was no real election, we can be sure that we will get a very competent and experienced management team leading the institute through the coming four-year period. We have had an excellent collaboration with Dag Kvale and his team. I congratulate Dag Kvale, Shuo Wang Qiao and Torbjørn Omland very much on four new years, Dean Ivar P. Gladhaug says.

– After a short briefing, the Faculty Board approved the proposal from the Electoral Board at the Institute of Clinical Medicine that Dag Kvale and his team should be re-elected for the positions in the institute management, he states.
