Covid-19 and the treatment of substance use disorders

A recent paper on Covid-19 and the treatment of substance use disorders with a focus on opioid agonist treatment, published by a large international group with contributions also from SERAF.

This is a review paper which focuses on clinical and practical challenges associated with the Covid-19 epidemic and the impact on drug treatment.

A starting point is the fact that persons with substance use disorders often are vulnerable, and that this vulnerability is intensified during the current epidemic and the added risk of acute respiratory infection.

The paper contributes with general advice regarding the treatment of substance use disorders both for treatment providers and for treatment systems managers.

The goal of the paper is to contribute towards improved patient services and reduce virus transmission both for patients and treatment providers.
