Clinical newborn medicine and epidemiology

The main purpose of our research group is to promote quality and gain new knowledge in clinical newborn medicine.

About the group

The main research strategy of the group is to exploit prospectively collected quality-controlled register data, as well as to initiate and participate in clinical studies.

Projects

The group has been involved in a number of research projects:

  • Early and late sepsis in a national cohort of premature babies born before 32 weeks of pregnancy during the years 2009 to 2019
  • Risk factors for early and late sepsis in a national cohort of premature babies born before 32 weeks during the years 2009 to 2019
  • Gram-negative sepsis in a national cohort of premature babies born before 32 weeks during the years 2009 to 2014, virulence factors and antibiotic resistance
  • Risks associated with long-term antibiotics exposure without a recognized agent, based on data from NNK (Norwegian Neonatal Network database)
  • Consequences of survival and morbidity in the neonatal period for 5 to 10-year old children treated with therapeutic hypothermia during the years 2009 to 2016
  • Risk factors for perinatal asphyxia and therapeutic hypothermia during pregnancy and birth in the years 2009 to 2016
  • Neonatal seizures; risk factors during pregnancy and birth
  • Stillbirths and death during the first year of life – a 10-year long cohort study from 2009 to 2018
  • Factors predicting weaning success in extremely premature infants born before 26 weeks of gestation
  • Fetal assessment of the myocardium and evaluation of the neonate (FAME-n) study
  • CRIB II score as a predictor of morbidity and mortality in premature infants born before 32 weeks of gestation, using data from the Norwegian Neonatal Network database
  • TREOCAPA – European clinical randomized placebo-controlled study on prophylactic treatment of ductus arteriosus in premature infants born before 29 weeks of gestation.
