Haemostasis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology

The group conducts basic and translational research as well as epidemiological and clinical studies related to thrombosis and haemostasis.

Our basic research includes cellular and molecular studies of coagulation inhibitors and their role in cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis and angiogenesis, both in normal and transformed cells.

The translational research focus on preventing complications and optimizing treatment by identifying mechanisms for thrombosis and bleeding.

Our epidemiological and clinical studies are aimed at venous thrombosis and haemophilia.

We also study algorithms to optimize diagnosis of venous thrombosis. Studies of patients with haemophilia seek to optimize the current expensive treatment.

Longterm goals

The aim of the group is to increase knowledge about risk factors for thrombosis, especially related to hormone treatment and long-term consequences related to venous thrombosis.

Projects

  • Basic research in the interphase between thrombosis and inflammation and cancer. Head: Benedicte Stavik.
  • Clinical studies and translational research related to haemophilia patients.
