Professor in immunopathology, Ulrich von Andrian at Harvard Medical School, has pioneered intravital microscopy to determine immune cell migration and homing in lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues.
His work encompass mucosal immunity, NK cell memory, viral immunology and neuroimmunology. Among his many achievements, his laboratory discovered an antigen-specific long-lived NK cell subset capable of adaptive immunity.
He has also contributed to the understanding of effector-to-memory transition.
In his most recent work, he has mapped out how nociceptors affect dendritic cell function at barrier tissues, thereby broadening the phenomenon of context driven, specific interactions between immune system and peripheral nervous system.
