Guest lecture - Thomas Eschenhagen

Increased Ca2+ affinity of the myofilaments increases mitochondrial ROS production – a disease mechanism in cardiomyopathies?

Professor Eschenhagen, currently chairman of the Board of the Directors of the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK), has concentrated his research efforts on understanding the molecular mechanisms of heart failure.

He is perhaps best known for his pioneering work on 3-dimensional engineered heart tissue (EHT) from primary cardiac cells.

He will now present novel work connecting myofilament calcium sensitivity and mitochondrial ROS production to development of cardiomyopathies.

Refreshments wil be served from 02.45 PM
