Report on: Visit to University of Bergen, Norway, May 2019

Mita Rana, Clinical  psychologist and Associate Professor from Dept. of Psychiatry & Mental Health, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), visited  Dept. of Crisis Psychology, University of Bergen, from May 11-19, 2019, on an invitation from the Head of Centre for Crisis Psychology Professor Jarle Eid and Senior Adviser Unni Heltne.  

Productive discussions were held about the planned 10 ECT course in “Crisis psychology and disaster response” – for M.Phil. Clinical psychology students. They also worked on more details of the framework for the student exchange program: contents, recruitment procedure and funding/ housing/ etc. Furthermore, number of exchange students (2-3 students each way) – and the timeframe (from about 10th of August to the 1st of October, 6 weeks) were also discussed.

Discussion on the possibilities of providing a closer look at the new therapeutic concept of concentrated 4-Day treatment formats was another topic at the meeting. Presentation  was given by Dr.Rana on the clinical psychology education in Nepal, the history and efforts to build a high quality education in clinical psychology to provide mental health treatment and counselling in Nepal.

She also presented the plans for a field experience and practicum for students from Norway in Nepal, as well as an overview of the psychology curriculum and program at UIB.

A meeting with the Dean at the Faculty of Psychology, Bente Wold, and another meeting with the Rector at UiB, Professor Dag Rune Olsen, was organized, as well as a breakfast at the Rectors invitation, on the occasion of the Norwegian Constitution Day. Rana also met with Professor Margareth Hagen, the vice rector at UiB.
