Hospital at home for children

The project is expected to contribute to the development of new organizational models for healthcare delivery and the improvement of healthcare services for children.

About the project

The project aims to investigate the implications of the transfer on collaboration, competence, and the need for education among healthcare workers, particularly nurses.

This PhD project focuses on the transfer of healthcare services for children from  hospitals to community health services, with hospital at home for children (HaH) serving as an example of this shift in responsibilities.

The project consists of two qualitative sub-studies and the development of a learning module.

  • The first sub-study examines the perspectives of healthcare professionals on what is necessary to ensure high-quality services when children are hospitalized in their own homes.
  • The second sub-study explores the perspectives of parents and home care nurses on collaboration between healthcare workers in the two service levels.
  • The third sub-study explores collaboration on HaH for children between stakeholders in hospitals, homecare services and education when HaH is carried out as a shared task between the hospital and community health services.

The project is important because the transfer of healthcare services from hospitals to municipalities has significant implications for the organization of healthcare and the competency of healthcare workers, especially nurses.

Objectives

By investigating hospital at home for children as an example of this transfer, the project aims to provide insights into how healthcare services can be effectively and efficiently delivered outside of specialized hospitals and how healthcare workers can be equipped with the necessary competencies to deliver high-quality care in different settings.

The research team comprises experts in nursing, healthcare management, and education.
