About the project
Common symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) include abdominal pain and diarrhea, but fatigue has also been reported as a prevalent symptom, affecting up to 80 % of patients with active disease.
Although fatigue is common in IBD, its pathogenesis remains unclear.
Data collection
This study evaluates fatigue in patients with IBD using data from a large population-based cohort study, in which all new cases of IBD in the South Eastern Health Region (HSØ) were included.
Aim of research
We aim to investigate factors associated with fatigue in patients with newly diagnosed IBD using clinical, biochemical and endoscopic data. Further, the patients will be followed for one year after the diagnosis with collection of data on the fatigue evolution.
We will investigate which factors that might influence the course of fatigue, including disease activity and severity, and the impact of different treatment regimens.
