The otolaryngology, opthalmic and neurology room (“The neuro-room”, B2.1011)

This room is primarily useful for students in the 7th semester. It provides facilities for inspecting eyes, ears and noses, as well as for performing spinal puncture.

Tympanometry

  • Teaching:
This should generally be taught in the 7th semester, but this is not always the case. It is recommended to practise this at the Skills Centre before you enter general practice.
  • Self training:
We have a Micro Tymp 2 tympanometer available for students.
  • User instructions:

Spinal puncture

  • Teaching:
You will be taught this in the 7th semester.
  • Self-training:
We have a mannequin on which spinal puncture may be simulated. This provides realistic resistance, and a water bag is set up in such a way that the pressure in the spinal cord is like that of a regular patient.

Ophthalmoscopy

  • Teaching:
You will be taught this in the 7th semester.
  • Self-training:
We have two mannequins on which slides can be changed showing a number of different retinas. This is very well suited for students to test one another.

Otoscopy

  • Teaching:
You will be taught this in the 7th semester.
  • Self-training:
Once again we have several mannequins used to study exchangeable tympana (with different pathologies). Well suited for self-testing.

Anatomy of the head and throat

  • Teaching:
You will be taught this in the 7th semester.
  • Self-training:
Two anatomical models of approximately double size with good marking of structures make it easy to find one’s way around the complex anatomy of the head and throat.
