Working with isotopes

The centre has one isotopelab, approved as type C -lab (inspected area).

Due to high working Activity NCMM allows 3H and 14 C to a restricted areas at levet E2, room 42:145 and NCMM 14 C, room 51:102. Radioactive isotopes permitted  at NCMM: 14C, 32P/33P, 35S og 3H. If any other isotope is going to be used, permission has to be obtained from the HSE at UiO. You also have to report the use of  RIA-kits with isotopes, like 125 J.

Before working with radioactive isotopes

The coordinator for radiation safety must be notified before any work/training with isotopes starts. The coordinator will review the routines for ordering, monitoring, decontamination etc. and the use of radioactivity in different areas in the isotope-lab.

Due to new regulations in 2005, UiO has permission for only very little radioactive release per year. Further reduced in approval 2012. Very low energy liquid waste can be poured into the sink followed by a lot of water, but limited to only declared values.

NCMM has strict routines concerning radioactive waste and the centre have permission for very low radiation activity release. You find more information in the guidelines below, item waste.

You must sign the form below before you are permitted to work in the lab.
