Dosimetry for working with ionising radiation procedure

Dr. Gladys Tjørhom is updating the information about the persons using the dosimeters. She collects / sends out the dosimeters and keep the subscription / the delivery date with The Norwegian Radiation Authority. In case of any reported exposure she will inform the persons exposed to radiation, the person in charge of radiation safety, group leaders, and the Chief Adm. Officer.

Every user of dosimeters is responsible to deliver their dosimeter to Dr. Tjørhom when called for by e-mail and pick up a new one before continuing their isotope work. Lost dosimeters must be reported to Eshrat immediately. The cost of one dosimeter is about NOK. 400.

The dosimeter should mainly be placed on the stem of the body with the radiation logo in front, the filters  facing the radiation  source. Photo: UiO

The dosimeter is a TLD (termoluminescens dosimetry) with a detection limit of 10 µSv (0,01mSv) giving two doses. One for the tissue 10mm deep (dose limit 20mSv per year) and the other for the skin (dose limit 500mSv per year). The lowest exposure dose reported will be 0,05mSv.
