Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?

I have MSc in biotechnology and a PhD in molecular genetics. I am interested in genetic engineering and all the possibilities it brings. I lived in Australia for a couple of years where I started scuba diving. I hope that one day I will have enough time to continue with that here in Norway. In addition to that I love gardening and making bonsai.

What were you doing before joining NCMM?

I worked as a molecular biologist at the Oslo University Hospital where I was involved in patients´ genetic diagnostics and at Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis, IBV, UIO, where I focused on experimental assessment of the STR sequence variability on an environmental adaptation using CRISPR/Cas 9.

What will you be working on in the Haapaniemi group?

I will start with evaluation and optimization of prime editing system (pegRNA) in cell lines and later proceed with development of primer editing based gene therapy for blood cancer predisposition syndromes.

What are you most looking forward to in this role?

Sharing my knowledge and learning new things. Challenges, new experiences and new opportunities.
