New collaboration in the making following EATRIS-Plus Staff Exchange

In February, Camila Esguerra visited Dr. Rima Nabbout's laboratory at the Imagine Institute for Genetic Diseases in Paris, France. The visit was made possible by the EATRIS-plus staff exchange programme.

With a grant received by the EATRIS-plus staff exchange program, Camila visited Dr Rima Nabbout, a pediatric neurologist and a top international expert on epilepsy syndromes. The purpose of the visit was to forge a collaboration with Rima and her team, and the meeting has already led to some exciting new developments.

– Based on the discussion with Rima and her team we realized that there were clear synergies between our research programs. Rima and the team now want to visit my lab in Oslo and continue discussions on how we can collaborate and apply for joint funding together, Camila shares.

During the visit, Camila gave a talk, met with two group leaders and advised a PhD student who is working with zebrafish. She comments,

– I went over an entire draft manuscript, figure by figure together with the PhD student and gave her suggestions based on my knowhow on modeling and analyzing genetic disorders in zebrafish.

Camila spent the whole day at the institute, which gave her plenty of time to see the facilities and even enjoy a moment of Paris sunshine on a rooftop with a view. Returning from her visit, Camila wholeheartedly recommends other researchers to apply for exchange through the EATRIS-Plus Staff Exchange Programme.

– I am grateful to Anita Kavlie for making this trip possible through the EATRIS mobility funds, she concludes.
