NCMM Scientific Retreat 2024

On the 3rd to 4th of June, NCMM and Associate Investigators gathered at Oscarsborg in Oslo fjord, for two days of scientific talks and networking.

The two-day retreat provided a platform for more than 80 participants to come together for networking and sharing knowledge. All of NCMM’s research groups as well as some of NCMM’s Associate Investigators presented their work within the field of molecular medicine, with an emphasis on research collaboration and science communication.

Parallel sessions were organized for the research group leaders to discuss research strategy, and the trainee committee held round table discussions about ARK (the Work Environment Survey 2024) with the outcomes of the sessions to be shared widely at future institute meetings.

A poster session took place in early evening on Day 1, with NCMM’s PhDs and postdocs being judged in two different categories. The NCMM associate investigators were tasked to judge the scientific quality, and members from NCMM administrative team assessed their ability to share their knowledge in layman’s term. The prize for best poster prize in each category, was awarded to postdoctoral fellow Solomiia Korchynska (Boccara group) and to PhD student Pavel Kopcil (Haapaniemi group), respectively.

The social committee (Birgit Kriener (Wasczak group), Dina Ruud Aronsen (Mathelier group), Nolan Newman (Kuijjer group), Ole Magnus Fløgstad (Sekulic group), Sandra Kristine Bryne (Boccara group), Samuele Cancellieri (Sahu group), Frida Haugen (Haapaniemi group), Elham Shojaeinia (Esguerra group), Sanne Iversen Lurås (Saarela group) and Rasma Gutsmite, Carlos Rodriguez, and Luis Quintero (all in technical or administrative positions at NCMM) organised a set of fun activities (e.g. pipette challenge, pass the orange ball, and solve the code) so participants could enjoy Oscarsborg surroundings. The team of eight (see picture below), led by Biswa Sahu, won this friendly competition!
