ECNP, European College of Neuropsychopharmacology, is an annual scientific meeting for disease-oriented brain research.
Barth was awarded the prize for her poster Exploring the impact of iatrogenic factors on global brain changes in chronic schizophrenia - a 13 years follow-up.
In this study, Barth and colleagues investigated brain images of long-term treated, chronic schizophrenia patients, and found a larger white matter volume reduction over 13 years in patients relative to healthy individuals. Patients on second-generation antipsychotics only showed lowest total brain and white matter volume.
