India and Covid-19

COVID-19 pandemic profoundly affected societies worldwide. Understanding how pandemic variables were forecast in a complex country like India, will hopefully provide insights into the application of data analysis, predictive modelling, and information management in the context of this large-scale public health crisis.

The importance of citizens initatives

There were strengths and limitations in the way data was collected and processed for policy formulation, resource allocation, and risk assessment. In that context, citizen science initiatives played key roles around digital platforms, data integration, remote collaboration in the epidemic information system. The collaboration between various stakeholders, including public health experts, policymakers and data scientists was relatively new territory in India.

Future crisis preparedness and response efforts should benefit from taking stock of challenges faced, strategies employed, lessons learned.

Discussion

After the lecture, researcher Tony Sandset will discuss the topic of the lecture with Professor Paul Kattuman.
