Committee for Gender Equality and Diversity

The Faculty of Medicine has appointed a committee to be a driving force for initiatives within gender equality and diversity. On December 13, they had their first meeting.

The committee must be a driving force for the Faculty of Medicine to reflect the society of which we are a part. Differences in gender, age, competence, cultural background, experience, functional ability, sexual orientation, social class, ethnicity and worldview give us multiple perspectives and make us better equipped to solve challenges and promote sustainability, innovation and value creation.

Good work with a gender equality and diversity perspective is also important for attracting and retaining talent, among both students and employees.

Diversity and equality from studies to professorship

— Everyone should be included! The goal is that the gender equality and diversity perspective is naturally included from the course of studies to academic and administrative staff," says committee chairman Tony Sandset.

The committee's mandate is to

  • develop the faculty's action plan for gender equality and diversity
  • contribute to the development of relevant policies, such as recruitment and personnel
  • follow the development of gender equality efforts at the faculty and departments via quantitative measurement parameters
  • contribute to the awareness of all gender equality and diversity issues.

The committee is appointed by the dean and represents all parts of the faculty as members and deputies on the committee:

The appointment period is for the period 24.11.2022 – 31.12.2024

Background

The establishment of the committee is one of several recommended measures presented earlier this year by the faculty's working group on gender equality and diversity. The group was led by Vice Dean Eivind Engebretsen.
