Standard operating procedure (SOP) Calorimetry Room – Measurement day

The routine is updated April 2021.

Measurement day

  1. The instruments have to be turned on the night before. If they are already on, you can open CaloScreen and click "Re-awaken system".
  2. If there is time, it is recommended to calibrate the glass column before each measuring day, and at least every 3 days in a measuring week.
  3. For calibration of glass columns, see SOP about calibration steps. For the RMR-room, this takes about 45 minutes.
  4. Measure weight of the participant before start. This should be done at a previous station on the measurement day, unless there is a scale in the calorimetry room.
  5. Note down the weight in the field "Body mass" and enter the rest of the information.
  6. Click "Check system operations".  If an error message pops up, it usually helps to click again. If this does not help, the program should be restarted.
  7. Click "Record".
  8. Save the file in an appropriate folder, preferably an own project folder. Wait 5 minutes before clicking "Save". Then the measurement starts.
  9. Click "Show display" to follow the O2 og COcurves. You can visualize everything in the same graph by clicking "View" and "Multi-channel display" in the graph that shows.
  10. Stop the measurement after wanted time. In the RMR room it is common to stop after 3600 samples, which is 3600 seconds = 1 hour. (or 1800 sec = 30 minutes).
  11. When the measure is stopped, the participant can exit the room. The room should then be aired 10-15 minutes before the next participant.
