In case of accident

Blood and blood products should always be handled with great care. The skin is the most important barrier against infection, and you have to be especially careful if you have wounds or eczema on your hands or fingers that is breaking your natural defence.

Contact the Health Service at UiO for a blood test or necessary treatment immediately if you have an accident which may cause an infection.

Health exams

A targeted health examination is required for employees and students who are working with infected material from animals or humans, like infected blood etc. NCMM has an agreement with the Occupational Health Unit at UiO that covers a health exam every second or third year for all employees working with mice.

Required vaccinations

NCMM or the group leader will pay for this expense.

  • Hepatits B - strongly recommended for all persons working with human blood.
  • Tetanus - strongly recommended for all persons working with animals.
